The famous “Norway in a Nutshell” journey is, in essence, an epic railway traverse spanning the entire width of the country from west to east. I began at seven in the morning from the coastal city of Bergen, following the itinerary by taking trains to Myrdal, and then transferring to the renowned Flåm Railway. The essence of this segment lies in the dramatic vertical perspective, connecting the fjords to the high plateau.

The entire journey—a continuous sequence of train transfers and mountain crossings—lasted a full day, concluding only near midnight in the eastern capital, Oslo. Although the seventeen-hour trek was an immense physical test, the scenery encountered along the way was truly indescribable.

From the deep blue of the fjords to the vast expanse of the high-altitude snowfields, nature’s majesty unfolds like a colossal scroll. Every viewpoint and every visual emerging from a tunnel offered a new shock of beauty. Despite the physical exhaustion, the resulting visual feast and spiritual satisfaction were priceless. Ultimately, to experience this complete traverse across the spine of Norway was profoundly worthwhile.
