Every year, between late autumn and early winter, Vancouver is enveloped by one or two days of profound, dense fog—a “Day of Silence.” Although this weather often brings significant inconvenience to urban traffic, for a photographer, it heralds a rare and anticipated visual feast.

I drove specifically to the mountain top to look down upon the city in the darkness. From that elevated perspective, the dense mist appeared like a vast, soft blanket draped gently over the entire Vancouver harbour.

The city’s normally loud lights are perfectly softened and diffused by the mist, transforming them into patches of hazy, warm light. This unique diffusion and filtering created a solitary and marvelous “City in the Sky” spectacle. The stillness and mystery beneath the fog rendered the familiar urban landscape entirely new, leaving behind an unforgettable scene.
