As my 2022 roadtrip in Iceland draws to a close, I rested in the Diamond Beach parking lot after sunset last night and waited for the sunrise to capture the icebergs on the black sand beach. Diamond Beach is located near Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, and the Jökulsá River connects the glacier lagoon with the Atlantic Ocean. The floating ice in the lake continues to move towards the ocean with the flow of the river, ultimately merging into the vast ocean. Numerous pieces of broken ice are carried by the waves to the outfall of the glacier lagoon and displayed on the black sand beach, which is famously known as “Diamond Beach“. The incredible work of nature is once again demonstrated on Iceland’s black sand beach, with the floating ice appearing in various shapes resembling ice sculptures, making it a sight of unparalleled beauty.
